Mahendragiri, Odisha (Eastern Ghats)
Located in the Gajapati district, this is the second-highest peak in Odisha, standing at an elevation of 1,501 metres (4,925 ft).

  • Significance: It was declared a Biodiversity Heritage Site in 2022 due to its rich flora (over 1,300 species) and fauna.
  • Mythology: It is deeply rooted in Hindu epics; legends say Lord Parashurama performed penance here, and the Pandavas built temples during their exile.
